PATROL CAPTAIN

Minimum Requirements: Ten years of progressive law enforcement or military experience leading up to supervision/management position; Work experience in a University or College setting is preferred. A valid driver's license is required. Necessary Special Requirement: Certification by the Department of Public Safety in accordance with § 23-23-40 of the Code of Laws of South Carolina 1976. A valid drivers license and safe driving history is required. Must have strong skills in providing excellent customer service and demonstrate strong ethics. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must have knowledge of proper law enforcement techniques and procedures, including knowledge of the laws responsible for enforcing. Knowledge of the legal rights of suspects and law enforcement personnel. Must have skill in the operation of vehicles, weapons, and communications equipment. Ability to evaluate situations and make independent decisions. Ability to plan, organize and review work activities and to effectively supervise subordinates. Ability to interact well with members of the University community as well as with fellow employees. Ability to effectively communicate with individuals and groups from varied backgrounds.
