South Carolina Electric and Gas seeks a Plant Mechanic at its Columbia Energy Center in Gaston, SC.
Responsibilities
Responsible for completing a variety of operations and maintenance activities at a combined cycle electrical power generation facility.
Performs mechanical maintenance and inspection on gas and steam turbines, valves and other associated equipment used in a power generation facility.
Responsible for the inspection and repair of mechanical rotating equipment, including the use of specialized tools such as laser alignment, borescope and vibration equipment.
Performs safe start-up, shutdown and isolation of equipment using Lock out Tag out Procedures.
Troubleshoot equipment problems utilizing technical reference manuals and documents.
Liaison with regional integrity and equipment management.
Performs technical analysis to prepare recommendations for future action.
Provide coaching, mentoring and training to other personnel.
Utilizes automated maintenance systems to generate work orders and enter technical findings.
Supervise and coordinate third party contractors.
Provide technical expertise in the mechanical field and assist with other functions within the team (Operations, Instrument and Electrical Techs, etc.)
Special Projects as assigned.
Coordinates purchasing with appropriate personnel and vendors in an effort to achieve timely repair of plant equipment.
Positive attitude towards safety.
Demonstrated ability to utilize basic hand and power tools.
Versatile in completing tasks in preventive power plant maintenance and repairs.
Qualifications
Excellent mechanical maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting skills.
Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.

Able to work independently with minimum supervision.
Team player with strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to adapt positively to a changing environment.
On-call rotation and emergency response as required.
Preferred
Power plant, 7FA Gas Turbine, industrial plant or equivalent experience as a Mechanic is preferred.
Education
Requirements include a High School diploma accredited by an organization that is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or one of the entities recognized by the U. S. Dept. of Education or GED and a minimum of 2 years of maintenance experience in a power plant or similar plant environment.
