Education: Graduate of an approved school of Radiologic Technology.                                        

Experience: None beyond Radiology School.

 

Type of Employees Supervised: None.

 

Licensure, Registry or Certification Required: Must be certified in primary modality.  Multimodality technologists must be certified in two modalities or must obtain certification in secondary modality within 12 months of transfer or hire date; Current SCRQSA certification. Current BLS (Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers) required prior to start date directly through the American Red Cross, the American Heart Association, or the military. (To register: Blended Learning or In Person BLS through the American Red Cross; or Classroom or Skills Session BLS through the American Heart Association. Certification must include an in-person skills session.)

 

Special Training: Familiar with all phases of anatomy; operation of radiology equipment and computers;  able to treat patients of all ages to include trauma.

BLS for Healthcare Providers required

Job Summary: 

This job, under the direction of a radiologist performs radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures at a level not requiring constant supervision of technical data. The technologist will perform a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative in the application of ionizing radiation for diagnostic purposes. Responsibilities:  

 

Performs all procedures proficiently to include using mobile Radiography and performing cases in surgery and strives to maintain high quality. 

 

Assists radiologists and/or physician with invasive/fluoro procedures using aseptic/sterile technique.  

 

Properly prepares and administers contrast materials associated with imaging procedures that are within the scope of practice as prescribed by a physician or in approved Radiology protocol.  

 

Prepares scan room for procedures using approved cleaning protocol. Appropriately discards sharps, orders supplies and maintains adequate level of supplies and linen.

 

Assures that proper radiation safety measures are being utilized. 

 

Knows and implements emergency procedures as needed.  

 

Performs department and hospital related computer functions pertinent to job. Enters and records data accurately and promptly.

 

Exhibits competency in performing QC tasks associated with equipment and procedures and ensures standards are met according to state and federal regulations

 

Provides clinical instruction to student technologists.
