Wages/Salary: $13.22/hour
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Horticulture and one to two years of experience in a horticultural area; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities. Professional horticulture experience and/or training is a must. Must have excellent communication and leadership abilities and some supervisory experience. Must possess or be eligible for a valid SC driver?s license.
Under general supervision, performs horticultural duties primarily in the Botanical Garden for the purpose of beautifying and maintaining gardens, exhibits, plant collections and/or public displays. Evaluates gardens and plantings in accordance with display, plant performance, and health standards. Coordinates selection and scheduling of plants for seasonal horticultural exhibits with other design staff. Assists in strategic planning and research in accordance with Riverbanks' Plant Collection Policy. Must be eager to learn about our collection and have ability to demonstrate creativity and teamwork. Plans, directs, and coordinates the activities of the horticulture staff and volunteers. Interacts daily with guests, other zoo and garden staff, and horticultural professionals to provide information and answer questions related to exhibits, collections, and public displays; answers general horticultural questions. Works outdoors year-round in all weather conditions. Reports to the Director of Botanical Garden.
