Education
High School Diploma or GED required.
Completion of a Surgical Technician program or equivalent required.
Licensure/Certification
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) required.
Note: As of 8/22/2021, current incumbents functioning successfully will be grandfathered with the current education, licensure, and experience levels.
BLS required or obtain within probationary period (first 90 days).
Experience
Five (5) years of operating room (OR) related, to include advanced techniques, experience required.
Experience performing complex surgical procedures in three (3) or more specialties. (ie, Ortho, Vascular, Robot, etc.) required.
Experience with diagnostic techniques and therapeutic modalities, and hemodynamic data interpretation required.
Supervisor or lead experience highly preferred.
Under the guidance of the Nurse Manager, the Assistant Nurse Manager, and/or designated staff, coordinates the instrumentation, supplies, and/or equipment for designated service lines. Ensures the operating room schedule has been reviewed for instrument and equipment conflicts and notifies the Nurse Manager, the Assistant Nurse Manager, and/or designated staff of potential procedure needs. Performs inventory of instrumentation and equipment per service line needs. Collaborates with Nurse Manager, Sterile Processing Manager, and/or designated staff for the need of purchasing additional instruments and equipment for service line. Proactively assesses instrument and equipment needs as the service line grows. Serves as a resource to department staff by assisting them with resolving other complex procedures issues. Ensures staff and vendor(s) adhere to the policy on new products in the operating room. Works in conjunction with the Clinical Nurse Educator to provide orientation to new employees and conducts training and in-services quarterly to Operating Room and Sterile Processing staff. Seeks new processes to improve operational efficiencies related to assigned service line, i.e., turnover time, and on time starts. Functions as a lead to the Surgical Technicians.
