Requirements:

A 10th grade education and five and one-half (5.5) years of related trades experience; or an
approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations.
A valid Class ?A? Commercial Driver?s License. (NOTE): This position requires a valid
Class ?A? Commercial Driver?s License within six (6) months of placement in the position.
However, applicants without a Class ?A? Commercial Driver?s License will be considered if
no qualified applicants with a Class ?A? Commercial Driver?s License are available.

Job Description:

Operates boom mowers, slope mowers and/or batwing mowers in roadside and right-of-way
clearing operations as necessary. Instructs crew members daily in safety practices. Practices
include flagging operations, wearing of safety equipment, vehicle safety, or when working with
hazardous material and waste. Serves as lead worker and crew leader performing various duties
within a section of county including roadway surfaces, construction and repair of bridges, and
constructing driveways. Assumes supervisor responsibilities and duties during their absence. Acts
as a lead worker of a crew in removing fallen trees from roadway, cutting dead trees on rightof-
way, and low hanging limbs over roadway. Operates large backhoe in full depth patching and
stabilizing operations. Sets up traffic control according to SCMUTCD standards to warn motorists
of road work ahead. Performs other job related duties, including on call for after hour
emergencies. Produces daily records of work performed and materials used, records including
HMMS and the maintenance requests and complaint forms. Inspects roadways for deficiencies in
shoulders, roadway surface, signs for serviceability and safety, vegetation, and drainage during
day and night inspections throughout the year. Reviews vehicle maintenance records and reports
needed for maintenance. Operates various equipment to remove snow and ice from highways
and bridges. Conducts safety inspections on all assigned vehicles and equipment. Performs
preventative maintenance on equipment as outlined in equipment and SCDOT servicing intervals.
Conducts and documents pre-operation or pre-trip inspections. Devises a schedule for work to
be performed by maintenance crew.
