MINIMUM AND ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
A 10th grade education and three and one-half (3.5) years related trades experience; or an
approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations.
A valid Class ?A? Commercial Driver?s License. (NOTE): This position requires a valid
Class ?A? Commercial Driver?s License within six (6) months of placement in the position.
However, applicants without a Class ?A? Commercial Driver?s License will be considered if
no qualified applicants with a Class ?A? Commercial Driver?s License are available.
Installs new signs and replaces existing signs in accordance with sign replacement plan on a ten

year replacement cycle. Serves as crew leader for the sign installation crew. Assists supervisor
in prioritizing daily work in accordance with ten year replacement cycle of all existing signs.
Removes dead animals from the roadway. Serves as crew leader directing crew in small trailer
type stripping operations, placing crosswalks, stop bars, and miscellaneous pavement markings.
Sets up traffic control according to SCMUTCD standards to warn motorists of road work ahead.
Assumes supervisor's duties and responsibilities during their absence. Assists with instructing
crew members daily in safety practices including flagging operations, wearing of safety
equipment, vehicle safety, or when working with hazardous material and waste. Performs other
related duties, including on call for after hour emergencies. Conducts and documents preoperation
vehicle/equipment inspections. Performs manual labor in building catch basins, pouring
concrete for curbs and raised medians, laying pipes for driveways, and other drainage
structures, repairing shoulders, clearing right-of-ways, and repairing bridges. Flags traffic during
road repairs to control flow of traffic to protect workers, general public, and equipment.
Operates chainsaw in cutting trees on right-of-way. Operates standard dump truck with snow
plow attachment and sand spreader to remove snow and ice from highways and bridges.
Operates tandem ten-wheel dump truck, 5 yard standard dump truck, and flatbed truck for
hauling materials including asphalt, limestone, dirt, soil, cement, pipe, construction materials
and debris. Performs other related duties as requested or assigned by supervisor. Operates
front-end loader in the loading of materials needed for maintenance operations including earth
materials, clay, sand, and aggregate.
