Requirements:

A high school diploma and eight and one-half (8.5) years of related trades experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations.
A valid Class ?A? Commercial Driver?s License. (NOTE): This position requires a valid Class ?A? Commercial Driver?s License within six (6) months of placement in the position. However, applicants without a Class ?A? Commercial Driver?s License will be considered if no qualified applicants with a Class ?A? Commercial Driver?s License are available.

Job Description:

Supervises foreman and/or crews in various maintenance activities. Investigates, and/or recommends corrective actions in connection with damage to SCDOT or private property, which are complex in nature. Responsible for the maintenance of county roads, coordinates the work of foreman and crew members. Assists with planning, organizing crew, materials and equipment. Inspects works in progress and makes follow-up inspections. Inspected work includes road condition, retreatment, ditching, mowing, bridge repair, drainage, signs and vegetation management. Schedules work on a priority basis. Reviews and/or maintains daily, weekly, and monthly reports, time sheets and cost records; recommends personnel actions including promotions, transfers, and disciplinary measures; rates employees yearly according to the Employee Performance Management system. Assists in preparing various maintenance reports detailing labor, material, and equipment cost. Contacts property owners who have complaints and damages and recommends to Resident Maintenance Engineer necessary action to be taken. Works with the RME on major projects. Assists with planning, organizing, supervising and inspection. Investigates complaints. Serves as supervisor of all maintenance activities during the absence of the Resident Maintenance Engineer and Assistant Resident Maintenance Engineer. Assists with the implementation of the county emergency plan for hazardous weather and other emergencies. Conducts training sessions with new employees and review sessions with present employees and crew supervisors in proper traffic control procedures, in accordance with Federal and State regulations. Works with the RME on major projects. Assists with planning, organizing, supervising and inspection. Instructs foreman and crews in department procedure, rules and regulations, safety, methods of work, maintenance of equipment and related activities. Performs other job related duties as requested or assigned by supervisor.
