Requirements:

Entry into the applicant pool requires an Associate's degree from an accredited institution in Veterinary Technology or a related field that qualifies an individual to obtain national certification. An active license with the Alabama State Board of Veterinary Medicine as a Veterinary Technician, or passage of the Veterinary Technical National Exam (VTNE) is required. Must have knowledge of processes, methods and procedures associated with animal care. The salary range for Level I is $25,000 - $41,700.

Level II requires an Associate's degree from an accredited institution in Veterinary Technology or a related field that qualifies an individual to obtain national certification plus two (2) years of experience in Veterinary Technology or in the care and comfort of animals. An active license with the Alabama State Board of Veterinary Medicine as a Veterinary Technician, or passage of the Veterinary Technical National Exam (VTNE) is required. Must have knowledge of processes, methods and procedures associated with animal care. The salary range for Level II is $28,000 - $46,700.

Level III requires an Associate's degree from an accredited institution in Veterinary Technology or a related field that qualifies an individual to obtain national certification plus four (4) years of experience in Veterinary Technology or in the care and comfort of animals. An active license with the Alabama State Board of Veterinary Medicine as a Veterinary Technician, or passage of the Veterinary Technical National Exam (VTNE) is required. Must have knowledge of processes, methods and procedures associated with animal care. The salary range for Level III is $31,300 - $52,100.

Job Description:

**This is a Monday thru Friday, 7:30 am to 6 pm position with some flexibility required.**

This position will be located in Oncology but will also assist other services as needed with patient care, assisting students, and client care. Will also operate, maintain, repair, and clean laboratory equipment, clinic area, and maintain supplies. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: oversight and training of professional veterinary students regarding care of animals, chemotherapy administration, preventative medicine practices, collection of specimens, and handling of animals; performing routine laboratory examinations including parasitology, bacteriology, hematology, and serology; assisting clinicians with student examination, treatment, surgery, restraint, sample collection in animals, and assisting in emergency and critical care of patients; administering medicine, routine vaccinations, and treatment according to prescribed instructions; observing and recording vital data, abnormal signs, body weight, food, water intake of animals, and collecting and labeling specimens such as blood, urine, and feces; scheduling appointments for diagnostic procedures and advising referring veterinarians about the use of specialized equipment such as ultrasonography, anesthesia equipment, and other treatments. May also be responsible for or assist in billing clients, inputting charges, and/or similar tasks.
