WASTEWATER TREATMENT OPERATOR D

Under occasional supervision, performs responsible technical work in the operation of the wastewater treatment plant. Work involves handling the responsibility of assisting higher-grade operators in the performance of duties necessary for the proper and efficient operation of the wastewater treatment plant. Reports to the Wastewater Treatment Superintendent. Assists operators with inspections of plant equipment. Assists operators with the preventative and emergency maintenance of plant equipment. Assists laboratory technician with routine laboratory duties. Reads and becomes knowledgeable of plant manuals, operation maintenance, risk management plan, storm water program, hazard communication program, and safety manual. Performs various housekeeping duties. Receives and/or reviews various records and reports such as plant operation and maintenance manuals, risk management plan, storm water plan, hazard communications plan, and safety manual. Refers to policy and procedure manuals, codes / laws / regulations, publications and reference texts, etc. Operates a variety of equipment and machinery such as vehicle, tractor, belt press, basic laboratory instruments, lawn mower, weed eater, etc. Uses a variety of tools such as power tools, hand tools, etc.; and a variety of supplies such as general office supplies, etc. Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the Wastewater Treatment Superintendent, Operators, Laboratory Technician, and the general public. Remains subject to stand- by duty and twenty-four hour call-out. Attends training as required. Performs other reasonably related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or Utilities Director. May be required to assist with industrial pre-treatment program, lift station operations, and maintenance of the collection of samples in plant and on system. Performs other related work as required.
