Requirements:

Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent with nine to twelve months of experience in water plant operations; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities. Must have a Water Plant Operator D certification. Must be able to work rotating weekends and some holidays. Must have a valid South Carolina Driver's license.

Must be physically able to operate a variety of tools and equipment. Must be able to exert up to fifty pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Position involves walking, reaching, bending, crouching, reclining, stooping, and balancing and is in excess of sedentary work. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of up to fifty pounds,

Job Description:

Under occasional supervision, performs technical work in the operation of the water treatment plant. Work involves performing the necessary adjustments, maintenance, and testing to ensure that the water treatment plant produces adequate quality and quantity of water. Reports to the Water Treatment Superintendent.

Uses plant SCADA systems; monitors and adjusts flow rates and chemical dosages to maintain the necessary amount and quality of water to meet customer demand and fire protection.

Visually inspects all areas of plant for proper operation.

Replenishes chemicals as needed in hoppers, day tanks, barrels, and gas cylinders.

Performs preventative maintenance and repairs on all plant equipment; coordinates with Superintendent for service calls when repairs are beyond capabilities of the Operators.

Performs basic plant maintenance to include housekeeping, painting, and grounds keeping.

Preforms required safety inspections; maintains safety records.

Answers utility trouble calls; dispatches when working nights, weekends or holidays.

Performs basic laboratory process control tests and other tests as required.

Performs basic office duties to include filing, completing spreadsheets, faxing, copying, etc.

Complies with all daily South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control monitoring requirements including but not limited to calibration of laboratory instruments, performing daily analytical testing required for South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control Monthly Operating Report (MOR).
