Requirements:

Education and Experience

Associate’s degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements

Valid South Carolina drivers license (no major violations or suspensions) High School Diploma or GED required Basic Jail Certification (76 hour in-service minimum after certified) NCIC Certification (reaffirm every two years after certified)

Job Duties

To serve and protect the public To maintain order and safety within the Detention Center and prevent escapes To provide a safe and secure environment for inmates and employees

Reports To

Detention Center Director

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Book in detainees (bio information, photograph, fingerprint)
  • Search detainees (pat-down and strip searches)
  • Provide hygiene to detainees daily
  • Provide canteen service to detainees daily
  • Enter incident reports and numerous other administrative paperwork
  • Operate NCIC/SLED computer (license, registration checks, etc.)
  • Conduct cells checks
  • Conduct cell searches
  • Conduct daily inspections of all facilities
  • Escort detainees to bond hearings
  • Escort inmate worked during meal service and laundry services
  • Receive and distribute mail for detainees
  • Conduct fire drills for the facility
  • Maintain communications via telephone and two-way radio
  • Transport of inmates to numerous locations
  • Conduct visitation periods for detainees and inmates
  • Direct supervision of detainees and inmates
  • Operate numerous computer programs (data entry and maintenance)
  • Operate security systems within the facility (audio, video and locks systems)
  • Victim notification of detainee hearing and release
  • Maintain order within the facility
  • Remove unruly detainees or inmates
  • Serve arrest warrants and legal papers
