A valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's License.  (NOTE): This position requires a valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's License within six (6) months of placement in the position.  However, applicants without a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License will be considered if no qualified applicants with a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License are available.

Job Description:

Diagnoses, repairs, or replaces parts as necessary on all automotive gasoline engines, transmissions, brakes, exhaust systems, cylinder heads, valves, timing belts, and cooling systems.  Operates and performs testing with new generation start tester and monitors testing equipment in order to diagnose problems with various on-board computer systems.  Diagnoses the repairs or replacement of parts on all diesel powered equipment assigned to SCDOT.  Performs maintenance and repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, hydraulic motors, pumps, cylinders, mowing equipment, tractors, and motorgraders.  Performs welding and fabrication as needed for repairs on various equipment making modifications to equipment to improve the production of utilizations.  Performs electric welding or gas welding.  Diagnoses and makes repairs to electrical systems and hydraulic systems.  Also assists in auto and truck body repairs.  Performs routine and general maintenance and repairs to automotive vehicles.  Cleans and keeps shop equipment and shop area in an orderly manner in accordance with OSHA regulations.  Ensures that all hazardous waste and materials are properly stored and or disposed as per DHEC regulations.  All containers are properly labeled and MSDS sheets available on all products used by shop.  Performs safety and preventive maintenance inspections and repairs.  Services and changes filters on trucks and equipment.  Answers service calls in the field.  Reads and interprets technical manuals and service.  Performs work on electrical system, repair or replacement of alternators, starters, DMI and strobe lights.  Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
