POSITION SUMMARY
JOB DUTIES:
This is an 8 hours per day, 5 days per week summer internship. Due to the nature of worked performed; the physical requirements of the job may vary significantly from day to day depending on each day’s assignment. Performs any combination of following tasks in and about surface mine, pit or using hand tools:
The student operates, inspects, and maintains a materials handling system conveyor system. The student checks fluid levels and the condition of the conveyor motors at the beginning of each shift. Starts-up the conveyor system and shuts it down, if a problem occurs. Cleans and lubricate the conveyor system throughout the shift to prevent breakdowns. The student cleans and performs minor routine adjustments as instructed by his/her mentor.
Cleans tools, equipment, materials, and work areas. Keeps working areas clean by shoveling muck, sand gravel or rock aside or onto conveyors. The intern shovels and sweeps spilled material from the assigned areas, including stairways, walkways, corridors, and areas underneath the conveyor. The intern might trims protrusions from walls and passageways. Student strips (cleans) residue of rock and dirt from exposed or rock formations. Loads, separates, or sorts materials at working face, using shovel or wheelbarrow. Lifts, carries, and holds building materials, tools, and supplies.
The intern along with a mentor will be exposed to controlling the quality of the product by visually inspecting the material being conveyed, ensuring that it is free of oversized and foreign material, such as large rocks, wood, broken asphalt and concrete, and any other materials which can cause damage to the processing plant, i.e. metal. Verifies amount of aggregate in storage bins by visual inspection.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School diploma and currently enrolled in a university pursuing a degree in mining or related field.
