Requirements:

Associate degree in park management or related field with two (2) years of park ranger experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Requirements:

  • Classification may require successful completion of law enforcement training as prescribed by state law.  Must possess a valid South Carolina driver's license.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Position requires medium to heavy lifting, walking and standing on uneven terrain, crawling and working at heights.  Exposure to weather conditions, cleaning agents and other material used in maintaining park facilities and grounds. 
Job Description:

Under general supervision, assists with overall operation and maintenance of a state park.  Performs diversified duties as governed by general instruction, policies and standard operating procedures of the department.  Assumes the responsibilities of the park manager in the absence of higher level employees. 

  • Provide leadership and direction to subordinate staff to enhance their skills and job knowledge. Assume responsibility necessary to advance both your skills and those around you.
  • Assists with the administrative activities to include, but not limited to, receiving and documenting revenues, preparing reports, and making payments in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Assists with the operational activities to include supervising specific areas such as, day use areas, camping, overnight Accommodations or special use facilities.
  • Assists with long and short term maintenance projects.  Makes frequent inspection to assure safe and satisfactory conditions.
  • Enforces park rules, regulations and policies within established limits and in accordance with department policy.
  • Performs continuous public relation activities and educational and recreational activities as required.    
  • Plans, directs and conducts maintenance on grounds, facilities and equipment to assure that they are maintained to the standards set forth by the department guidelines.
  • Practice and promote teamwork within the Park Service, throughout the agency and with external agency stakeholders.  Represents office as an active member on agency teams assigned throughout the year.

 

Actual Job Location: Hickory Knob State Resort Park.

Full-time, 40 hours per week rotating schedule including weekends and holidays.
Residency in agency provided housing.
