A high school diploma and six (6) years of progressively responsible field experience in geodetic
surveying or related area; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State
Human Resources Regulations.
A valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License.

Job Description:

Performs foundation inspection of driven piles and drilled shafts for bridge construction.
Ensures all approved methods of installation and SCDOT design specifications are met, including
load bearing capacity of driven piles, and correct bearing strata of drilled shaft foundation.
Performs primary inspection on various bridge construction including column construction, cap
and deck construction by ensuring correct placement of reinforcing steel, concrete placement,
verifying dimensions, and checking elevations. Inspects roadway construction including
placement of fill material in embankments. Performs compaction tests utilizing Nuclear Density
Gauge to ensure contract requirements are met. Inspects placement of concrete and other
types of drainage pipe. Inspects construction of catch basins, curb and gutter, all bases,
guardrail, and seeding. Performs NPDES erosion control inspection and monitoring. Inspects
erosion control items and maintains documentation to ensure compliance with NPDES permit.
Performs asphalt roadway inspection by checking rates of placement, and using a Nuclear
Density Gauge to determine acceptability of finished product. Checks rate of tack dispensed,
monitors rolling patterns, and placement of painted lines. Monitors the sampling and testing of
all materials used on construction projects to ensure materials meet required specifications.
Monitors traffic control procedures on assigned projects to ensure the approved traffic control
plan is being adhered to. Prepares reports to include daily work reports, erosion control
reports, monthly estimates, final estimates, and final plans to ensure contractor are properly
paid for all work completed satisfactory. Trains subordinates in all aspects of construction work
to include field inspections, sampling and testing of materials, maintaining daily diaries, using
Site Manager.
