Continuing Education Receives Recognition

Two members of Piedmont Technical College’s Continuing Education and Economic Development division have been recognized for their outstanding work by the South Carolina Association for Higher Continuing Education (SCAHCE).

Rusty Denning, associate vice president for Continuing Education, was named Outstanding Continuing Education Professional and Kassie Hall, program manager, received the John J. Duffy Scholarship Award. The new Center for Advanced Manufacturing in Laurens was also nominated for outstanding Continuing Education program.

“I feel honored to have been nominated for this award by my staff,” said Denning. “It shows that they feel that what we are doing as a whole is making a difference.”

Denning attributes his strong commitment to Economic and Workforce Development to his roots in the Technical College System of Georgia, which actually began when he was a student at Ogeechee Tech. His previous work experience with the Georgia Technical College System includes being Director of Business and Industry Services at Ogeechee Technical College for 15 years prior to coming to Piedmont Tech in 2010.

“Rusty brought his drive for success and dedication to his community with him to Greenwood,” said Deborah Hoffman, program manager. “His most notable career contributions include collaborative efforts between different state agencies and local educational providers, focusing on offering innovative programs to local employers and the public.”

Hall received a scholarship that is awarded to members of SCAHCE who are engaged in graduate study on either a full or part-time basis. She is currently pursuing her MBA from Anderson University.

“It was an honor to be nominated by Deborah because she has been in the business for much longer than I have,” Hall said. “I feel like I’m learning from them every day and it’s an encouragement for them to recognize some of the positive things I’ve been able to accomplish.”

“From the day Kassie joined our team, we realized we had a very special young lady.  She was so eager to learn and would take on any and all projects given to her,” said Hoffman. “Investing in Kassie’s education will allow us to help a young lady that has proven herself in a short period of time and will be willing to give back to continuing education in the future.”
