Piedmont Tech Receives Federal Grant Money for Classes in Edgefield

Piedmont Technical College, Edgefield Adult Education and Strom Thurmond Career Center (STCC) have received nearly $150,000 as part of a Federal Incentive Grant awarded to the SC Department of Employment and Workforce, SC Department of Education and the SC Technical College System.  The initiative, called Learn 2 Earn, is a comprehensive, coordinated effort to meet basic skills needs of adults and create a pipeline of skilled youth and adult workers for the health care and advanced manufacturing and includes a soft skills component.

With the assistance of the grant, PTC will be offering automotive technology classes to be held at STCC. These classes will cover the basics such as engine fundamentals and braking systems. They will also provide employability skills, bring in representatives from automotive dealerships and industry and a mini-job fair for the students.

“We are very excited about this partnership to provide this training opportunity for Edgefield County,” said Rusty Denning, associate vice president of Continuing Education and Economic Development.
