Piedmont Technical College is offering an exciting slate of summer programs. Get hands-on with our art, writing, and first responders programs. For all the gamers out there, we’re offering lessons in coding, Minecraft and Roblox. 

Art Around the World (June 12-15)

Embark on an artistic adventure around the world in this 4-day camp. Campers will learn about artistic concepts and techniques from countries all over the world and use these techniques to create their own projects. They will also be introduced to artists from across the globe and their unique styles. Daily snacks provided.

Make Your First Video Game (June 12-15)

Make your first video game in this one-of-a-kind class that shows you the keys to designing your first 2D platformer game. Conceptualization, play experience, level design, graphics, sounds and simple codes are just some of the concepts that we’ll explore. No prior experience is necessary, just a desire to have fun. Student projects will be available on password-protected site to share with friends and family. Games are only compatible on PC.

Lego My LEGOs! (June 26-29)

Did you know? Not only is building Legos a lot of fun, but it also improves hand-eye coordination, develops spatial skills, enhances fine motor skills, builds patience and persistence, and aids in problem solving skills. Lego Technic sets are skillfully and purposefully designed to be more advanced and STEM-geared with their moving parts and pneumatic elements. Students in this camp will each receive their own Lego Technic kit and will assemble it with the help of a seasoned instructor over the course of the week. Students take home their kits at the end of camp to keep.

Minecraft Modders (June 26-29)

Customize your own Minecraft world and mod the classic game in this one-of-a-kind class. Learn scripting and logic statements as you create your first mods. Students will create a wide variety of new elements, gameplay mechanics, and world generating mods to change the way you play Minecraft. Projects will be available on a password-protected site to share with friends and family. Students will only be able to play projects at home if they have the Java version of Minecraft.

Learn the basics of coding languages like HTML, JavaScript, and CSS through a series of web projects and design challenges each day and be on your way to becoming the next tech star. Whether you want to be a Silicon Valley CEO or a high school student who made $1 million for programming in her bedroom, this course has the essentials you need to begin your journey. Savvy Scribblers Writing Camp (July 17-20)

Do you dream of writing a short story or even a book? Savvy Scribblers will help you get started. Students will learn how to craft a hook that will attract readers. Then, they will discover the common elements of every story, no matter what length. Finally, students will learn about common writing mistakes and how to avoid and correct them. By the end of camp, everyone should have a polished short story.
