Must be enrolled in a degree-seeking secondary education program, with one to two years? experience working with children in an educational or instructional setting (formal or informal teaching, camp staffing, tutoring, coaching, lessons, etc.) or any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities. Must be comfortable handling small animals (reptiles, birds, small mammals, insects) and have a good knowledge of natural science. Must have camp experience and some supervisory experience. Must possess or be eligible for a valid S.C. driver's license. Must have and be able to provide proof of current CPR/First Aid certification and a negative TB test by the first day of training. Must be available for all training dates: May 21 and 31 and June 1 - 3, from 8am to 5pm. Must be available at least 9 out of 10 weeks of camp: June 6 through August 12, working Monday - Friday 8:00AM - 5:15PM, schedule will vary to support extended stay staff as needed. There is some flexibility with this schedule.
Under limited supervision, assists the Coordinator of Camps with the successful facilitation of Riverbanks? summer camp program. Assist camp counselors with programs and group management. Contact parents of children as needed, provide comfort to children who fall ill. Assist camp counselors with discipline issues. Provide administrative support to insure the program?s success. Helps to supervise and motivate children between the ages of 4 years old and 12 years old. Assists the
Coordinator of Docents and Zooteens in training, managing, scheduling and supervising all teen volunteers assisting with summer camp activities. Facilitates daily animal encounters for all camp groups. Enthusiastically supports the camp staff and the mission of Riverbanks Zoo & Garden. Acts as positive role model for camp counselors, volunteers and campers.
