Assistant Principal
POSITION TITLE: Assistant Principal

GENERAL SUMMARY
The Assistant Principal at Bettis Preparatory Leadership Academy serves as a key instructional and operational leader who supports the Principal in ensuring a safe, productive, and academically rigorous learning environment. This role requires a dynamic, student-centered, and detail-oriented administrator who thrives in a collaborative setting and is committed to supporting teachers, students, and families.
The Assistant Principal will help lead instructional practices, school culture initiatives, safety protocols, and day-to-day operational systems that allow the school to function smoothly and effectively.
The Assistant Principal at Bettis Preparatory Leadership Academy will do the following:
Instructional Leadership
Support teachers in implementing high-quality instruction aligned to SC College & Career-Ready Standards.
Conduct classroom observations and provide actionable feedback to improve teaching and learning.
Assist with monitoring student data (attendance, iReady, SCReady, grades, discipline, progress monitoring) to identify areas for academic and behavioral support.
Help coordinate professional development, PLC meetings, coaching cycles, and curriculum implementation.
Ensure consistent progress monitoring and assist teachers in adjusting instructional plans as needed.
School Culture & Student Support
Promote a positive and inclusive school culture focused on leadership, academic excellence, and social-emotional well-being.
Assist in implementing Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 behavior and SEL supports.
Support teachers in classroom management and student behavior plans.
Oversee student discipline processes to ensure fairness, consistency, and adherence to school policies.
Build strong relationships with students, families, and staff to foster trust, communication, and engagement.
Operational & Compliance Leadership
Assist in enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, safety plans, and board policies.
Support daily campus operations including arrival, dismissal, lunch, transitions, and supervision schedules.
Assist with compliance documentation, reports, and school improvement planning.
Help maintain accurate records for discipline, attendance, safety drills, special programs, and other required documentation.
Work with the Principal to ensure the school remains compliant with SCPCSD expectations, state guidelines, and internal procedures.
Family & Community Engagement
Communicate effectively and professionally with parents, guardians, and outside agencies.
Support school events, parent meetings, community partnerships, and leadership initiatives (e.g., Eagles L.E.A.D., STEM events, family nights).
Respond promptly to parent concerns and coordinate follow-up as needed.
Other Duties
Serve as the school leader in the Principal’s absence.
Assist with hiring processes, onboarding, and staff support.
Perform all other duties as assigned by the Principal.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership or related field required.
Valid South Carolina certification in School Administration or the ability to obtain certification.
Minimum of three (3) years successful classroom teaching experience; leadership experience preferred.
Knowledge:
Knowledge of policies, procedures, and activities of Bettis Preparatory Leadership Academy and the SC Public Charter School District.
Understanding of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and effective teaching strategies.
Knowledge of state and federal educational regulations, including discipline, special education, accommodations, and accountability requirements.
Knowledge of leadership practices that promote positive school culture and student achievement.
Skills/Effort:
Ability to analyze complex data and make instructional and operational decisions.
Ability to effectively communicate with teachers, students, parents, board members, and the community.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to navigate sensitive or challenging situations.
Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced school environment.
Skill in conflict resolution, mediation, and maintaining positive professional relationships.
Ability to supervise and support staff, provide feedback, and maintain high standards of performance.
Working Conditions:
Work conducted in both office and school environments with frequent movement throughout the campus.
Requires ability to work under pressure related to deadlines, emergencies, and daily school operations.
Physical demands may require lifting up to 25 pounds, standing for extended periods, and assisting during school events or emergencies.
Requires ability to hear conversations, observe classrooms, and respond quickly in high-activity environments.
Some evening events and occasional weekend responsibilities required.
Responsibility:
Supervises staff, students, and designated school programs.
Assists in managing school operations, instructional initiatives, and safety procedures.
