Job responsibilities may include:
This position is an electrical/electronic project design engineer within the Network Protector product line for individuals with significant experience managing and designing electrical and electronic products, specifically for use in protective relays and communication/automation applications. Candidates must have demonstrated the ability to complete projects with minimal guidance. This position requires an outstanding competence in software and firmware methods, and a working knowledge of hardware design, including circuit board design and layout, electronic components, and electrical principles.

This position requires experience in the development of high and low level code for complex embedded systems. Experience with Linux kernel side and user side code development is highly desirable.

Design responsibilities include review and critique of circuit board design, electronic component selection and obsolescence planning, and will be working directly with contract engineering teams, Eaton engineering teams, customers, field sales and/or marketing.

The position requires that the individual be capable of reviewing and critiquing the concept, creating and approving the internal design documentation and all calculations related to applicable safety regulations such as UL, NFPA, IEC, IEEE & NEC.

A. This position will require 50% firmware embedded code work, 30% hardware and uP discrete digital design and 20% firmware validation and troubleshooting.
B. Experience in the following areas: embedded systems firmware development including real-time firmware design, C and assembly languages.
C. Ability to review and critique embedded microprocessor and DSP hardware/firmware system design and programming.
D. Design, implement, and document firmware or software required for product development, build systems, code control, bug tracking, regression testing.
E. Review and approve 3rd party product circuit board designs and project management for new product development projects or existing product design changes.
F. Perform circuit board component analysis and selection.
G. Provide electrical circuit simulations with tools such as PSPICE and system level simulation tools such as Matlab.
H. Generate test plans, execute and record results from design verification tests
I. Generate accurate and complete design documentation for long term enhancement, support and maintenance.
J. Lead and manage outside sourced development efforts and circuit board designs.
K. Review and develop accurate drawings and/or electronic data to manufacturing personnel or outside sources.
L. Keep abreast of technology advancements and make recommendations on equipment, software, and design processes.
