Requirements:

A bachelor's degree in engineering and two (2) years of entry-level engineering work experience;
or a bachelor's degree in engineering technology and four (4) years of entry-level engineering
work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human
Resources Regulations.
A valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License.

Job Description:

Assists the Resident Maintenance Engineer in the planning, scheduling, and supervising of daily
maintenance activities including coordination of equipment and personnel during inclement
weather. Assumes the responsibility of the RME in their absence. Assists the RME with handling
personnel matters, enforcing departmental, policy, and ensuring compliance with safety
regulations. Gathers information, quantities, and creates maps for the submittal of maintenance
contracts that will include resurfacing, thermoplastic markings, raised pavement markers,
contract mowing, and herbicide. Investigates requests for service and complaints from the
general public, public officials, or contractors and makes recommendations for corrective action.
Oversees the HMMS database and performs monthly quality control through the use of discoverer
reports. Updates and maintains the Laurens roadway asset database. Assists in the processing of
claims. This includes both damage claims submitted by the general public and claims to be
submitted by the SCDOT for property damage. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Performs field inspections of roads, right of ways, guardrail, catch basin, and culverts.
