Requirements:
Minimum and Additional Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in the natural or physical sciences or related technical field; or an associate degree in the natural or physical sciences or related technical field and two years of environmental health or related experience; or high school diploma and four years of environmental health or related experience.

Institutions of higher learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
 
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Excellent organizational and communication skills; make presentations in a group setting; communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written manner; work effectively in a team-oriented environment and encourage positive working relationships with coworkers, industry, and government officials; work independently in a field environment; work in all reasonable weather conditions; access non-traditional work environments; climb ladders, stoop, lift and carry up to 50 pounds; make visual observations of facilities, samples, plans, specifications, reports, etc.; visually differentiate between various shades of color; conduct field tests, using delicate instruments and chemicals, which require steady hands; and wear the required safety equipment as needed, to include but not limited to, safety glasses, lab coats, and nitrile or latex gloves. Must maintain a professional appearance. Must possess a valid driver’s license and a good driving record. Ability to travel daily throughout the state as program or region workloads demand. Occasional overnight travel may be required. This position may require participation as a member of the Emergency Response Team, overseeing environmental clean-up, which requires 24-hour on call and response on a rotating basis. Performs other duties as required. This position requires the successful completion of prescribed technical coursework and passing any test relevant to the position within the probationary period or trial period. 

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with personal computers; peripheral equipment; and food protection and sanitation. Thorough knowledge of applicable food state and federal laws and regulations. Knowledge of environmental health regulations, data management skills and proficiency with Microsoft office professional (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access). The ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.

Job Description:

Assist in the implementation of the Food Protection Program. Conduct comprehensive evaluations/inspections of retail food establishments including food service facilities, retail markets, school lunchrooms, temporary food services and other related food service activities to determine compliance with state regulations, approved plans/specifications and standard practices.
 
Investigate complaints in the food protection program and other Environmental Affairs (EA) program areas. Enforce the provisions of Regulation 61-25, “Retail Food Establishments.” Prepare reports/referrals of a professional and technical nature for enforcement activities and recommend action for violations. Provide consultation to the regulated community and general public on state laws, regulations and standards.
 
Participate in disaster/emergency preparedness activities as outlined in the region and agency policies. Position may be required to assist in various general sanitation programs. Position may also include participation as a member of the Emergency Response Team.
