Grounds Crew Member-Parttime

SCS is accepting applications for the role of part-time Grounds Crew Member. This position is scheduled to work up to 1500 hours per year, 25-28 hours per week on average. The successful candidate would become an active member of the SCS Grounds Crew, reporting to the Grounds Manager. This team has extensive responsibilities, including: 

• All landscaped areas on the 40-acre campus (athletic fields, open grass, flower beds)
• Playgrounds including equipment inspections, mulch, irrigation
• Athletic fields, both practice and games venues 
• Pre- and post-game preparations (outdoor sports) working with the Athletics Department  
• Irrigation, fencing, walkways, islands, parking lots and curbing 
• Preparations for major campus events as needed 

The ideal candidate will have a background in horticulture and would be comfortable maintaining the school's flower beds year-round as a primary responsibility. In addition, this person would assist in other areas as directed by the Grounds Manager. Planned hours will be either M-F 12:00-5:00 p.m. or M-F 11 a.m.-4:00 p.m. but may vary at times due to school needs.

Qualified Applicants:

• Must be a born-again believer in Jesus Christ; be involved with an evangelical, protestant church of like faith and practice; and be in agreement with the philosophies, Statement of Faith, and Statement of Christian Life Commitment of Southside Christian School.
• Have a commitment to the mission, philosophy, goals and objectives of Christian schooling as expressed by Southside Christian School demonstrated by their eligible children enrolled in Southside Christian School.
• Education: Preferred candidates would have an educational background or equivalent work experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Landscape maintenance.
  • Irrigation system installation and maintenance.
  • Equipment repair and preventative maintenance.
• A valid SC driver's license, acceptable DMV record/points (CDL Class B preferred).
• Ability to pass a SLED background check.
• Flexible personality with a team mindset and good interpersonal skills.
• Excellent customer service skills and ability to communicate well with SCS stakeholders.
• Physical Requirements: This position is labor-intensive and certain physical requirements must be met. They include the ability to: 
  • Lift up to 75 pounds and be able to lift 40-60 pounds repeatedly.  
  • Walk over a 40-acre campus with a variety of terrain. 
  • Work in temperature extremes and in the direct sun.  
  • Climb and work from ladders, including work that is over head 
  • Tolerate dusty conditions, such as from grass clippings or from the wood shop. 
  • Stoop, bend and maneuver around equipment as needed. 
  • Use hand power tools, such as trimmers, saws, air wrenches. 
  • Operate mowers, tractors, gators using both hands and feet. 
  • See and read warning labels on equipment, as well as operating instructions. 
  • Pass pre-employment drug screening and criminal background check.
