Requirements:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:  

  • Minimum Education Requirements: High School diploma or GED. 

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the IF area and needs to be Sr. Operator certified. 

  • Associates degree, military training, and/or related experience is a plus.   

  • The job requires excellent judgment/decision skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision. 

  • Knowledge of nylon processes and processing equipment with additional knowledge of lab and maintenance procedures. 

  • Trained and certified on 1st floor operator, 2nd floor operator, troubleshooting, control room and tower process.   

  • Knowledge of safety rules and operational procedures. Ability to start, string-up, doff and troubleshoot equipment. Troubleshoot potential safety hazards, process and equipment problems while maintaining exemplary safety and operational expertise. 

  • Ability to read blueprints and draw sketches sufficient for shop fabrication.  Understand equipment functions and has knowledge of design and modification for improvements to processing equipment. 

  • Good interpersonal skills: communication with leaders, engineers, technicians, operation contractors, maintenance, and vendors in an effective manner for approval and implementation of procedures/tests. 

  • Computer understanding/manipulation/interpretation: Record, retrieve, and summarize information in various computer programs available. Has a useful knowledge of Aspen, Provox, Citrix, operational programs, and MS Office.   

  • Strong planning/organizational skills: Effectively conduct several activities at the same time, anticipate area material needs (maintenance), and take timely action so that no production interruption occurs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING ENVIRONMENT: 

  • Must work where the noise level requires hearing protection. 

  • May be exposed to various hazards such as corrosive chemicals (acetic acid for autoclave acid boil), steam, molten polymer, equipment related dangers, etc. 

  • Routine safety equipment:  long sleeves, safety shoes, hard hat, ear plugs/muffs, safety glasses 

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. 

  • Ability to push/pull buggies or carts up to 200 lbs. 

  • Ability to carry 25 lbs. or less.

Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY:  

The Operations Shift Technician’s role is responsible for maximizing IF quality control and positional productivity by providing focused attention and correction to individual problem positions. The technician functions as a primary interface between the manufacturing area and both internal and external parties which provide services as well as material. The technician works closely with Manufacturing and Process Control and is capable of performing the duties of the Operator.  A Lean Manufacturing concept is used to minimize downtime and increase productivity with emphasis on producing A-grade product for tire and air bag. 

 

The Operations Shift Technician’s function is to assure that product is made, tested and released according to documented work instructions, specifications, procedures, and best practices while meeting or exceeding customer expectations.  

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Daily support of production goals through diagnosis and repair of process extrusions and spinning.     

  • Daily data collection and communications of failures experienced during the shift. 

  • Clear and concise information on machine failures. 

  • Provide insight and recommendations to drive continuous improvement efforts. 

  • Work with Process Engineering to implement modifications and design improvements. 

  • Utilizes 5 senses roving inspections to identify potential failures before they occur. 

  • Provide coaching and share knowledge regarding proper equipment operation. 

  • Back-up for Processor, and Operator.   

  • Coach and develop operators and troubleshooters on his/her shift. 

  • Comply with all safety/health related policies and procedures, participate in company sponsored safety programs and activities, and report to management those conditions or actions by employees or others that might create a hazard to themselves or others in the plant.  Reports any work-related injury or illness, no matter how minor, to their supervisor or lead.  

  • Maintain housekeeping on assigned machines and in areas.  

  • Troubleshooting – work in all areas in IF for troubleshooting and implementing corrective actions.   

  • Writes permits for area work and enter notifications for maintenance reliability items.   

  • Assist in machine start-ups and shutdowns.   

  • Must be able to work 12 hour rotating shifts.  

  • Must be able to work call-ins, unscheduled hours, and overtime as needed.
