Requirements:

Associate degree plus 3 years work journey-level technical work experience in a laboratory setting; or a High School diploma plus 5 years work journey-level technical work experience in a related laboratory setting. Associate or Bachelor of Science degree is preferred. Work experience in laboratory preparations and techniques is also preferred.

Job Description:

This position will coordinate all labs for general biology. He/she is responsible for the day to day operations of the labs. He/she is also fiscally responsible for all equipment, supplies, and chemicals orders. He/she will provide advice/plans on all laboratory issues including safety and security. In addition, they will be responsible for ordering, maintaining, and replacing models in the anatomy model rooms.
In this challenging role, you will support the Biological Sciences Department at Greenville Technical College. Duties may include any or all of the following:
• Prepares chemicals/equipment, etc. for all scheduled biology labs
• Orders chemicals and equipment according to state guidelines for Barton and satellite campuses
• Hires, trains, and supervises lab assistants (scheduling, keeping up with hours, managing their work, etc.)
• Supervises the overall organization and cleanliness of the labs
• Assists the department with the development of a security plan for all laboratory chemicals and equipment
• Assist the department in enforcing all safety regulations in the labs
• Maintains an inventory of all lab equipment and supplies, and performs annual inventory report
• Disposes of all waste properly
• Verifies all received items, and follows up on missing or broken items
• Keeps laboratory equipment in good working condition (i.e pH meters, spectrophotometers, balances, etc.)
• Arranges for the repair and/or maintenance of laboratory equipment
• Arranges the transport of chemicals and equipment to the satellite campuses as needed
• Makes full-time and adjunct faculty aware of any safety or security regulations/violations in the labs
• Helps the adjunct faculty with laboratory procedures/equipment, etc.
