Requirements:

MINIMUM EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent, four years of solid waste operations experience OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Requires SCDHEC Landfill Operator Certification or the ability to obtain in one year of employment. SC Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred.

Job Description:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervises the daily operations of the county's solid waste management services; ensures compliance with all policies, procedures, and SCDHEC regulations.
  • Supervises the duties of heavy equipment operators; instructing, assigning, reviewing and planning work of others.
  • Coordinates activities; allocates personnel; operates equipment when necessary

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

  • Inspects facilities and daily activities; investigates and resolves technical, operational and service problems.
  • Completes performance evaluations and recommends discipline when required for Solid Waste Department employees.
  • Ensures proper maintenance and availability of heavy equipment as needed to maintain and operate landfills. Coordinates repairs of equipment performed by outside contractors.
  • Inspects landfill drainage per storm water permit; part of storm water team; keeps accurate and up-to-date records as required.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
  • Performs related work as assigned based on the needs specific to department
