Associate Engineering Degree or equivalent related experience. Degree and minimum two years experience is desirable. Skills must include math, organization, and ability to clearly communicate in writing and verbally. Learn to utilize CAD and CAM systems for design of tooling, fixtures, and for generation of cutter paths. Increase knowledge by attending courses and through independent study.
Troubleshoot difficult machining problems and assist other setup personnel in solving problems. Participate in root-cause analysis. Sample new tools. Define by analysis and experimentation the optimum setup of new and existing jobs including: speeds and feeds, optimimal toolpath, error proofing, short cycle time, tool geometry, coolant flow and direction, tool life management, low scrap, ergonomics and work cell layout, part packaging, and short setup time. Produce detailed documentation of processes are statistically capable. Use micrometers and other types of gauging. Initiate reviews of existing processes and search for and implement continuing improvements. Train various machining personnel on basic principles of machining, equipment setup, troubleshooting, use of setup sheets, and quality systems procedures. Assist Tooling Engineer in making design decisions on new jobs, including machine selection, part orientation, fixturing points, clamping strategy, tools required to achieve finishes and tolerances, etc.
