Requirements:

5+ years of electronic, electrical or instrumentation experience
High School Diploma or GED/ Four year degree, preferred.
Work involves a wide range of diversified and complex duties including installation and modification and repair of electrical and electronic equipment and controls requiring much care to effectively diagnose, troubleshoot, and monitor highly automatic microprocessing equipment.
Have a strong understanding of operating systems and software packages used in PLC systems as required in order to bypass problem circuits and restore operations.
Must be able to check and calibrates plant instrumentation; routinely checks rolling mill, reheat furnace, and melt shop electronic stems; plans and assists engineers with program changes in plant programmable logic controls.
Prior experience working closely with engineers and maintenance supervisors in planning systematic maintenance of electronic systems and instrumentation.
Capable of working closely with engineers and maintenance and production personnel as needed.
Lay out, install, and maintain a variety of complex electronically-controlled equipment such as rolling mill loop controls and secondary distribution centers; programmable sequences and pulpit controls panels; balances loads; wire complex circuits; and work with related diagnostic equipment including; digital volt meter, chart recorder, Digital Multi-Meter, oscilloscope, and other electronic tools and equipment.
Previous experience installing, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical and electronic controls and systems requires a thorough working knowledge and understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, fluidic, and electrical systems and components and how they operate.
Have a basic understanding of computer networks and a theoretical understanding of PC environments.
Perform on-line / off-line programming in a wide variety of PLC and other processor based systems. (ABB, Allen Bradley, Honeywell).

Basic Function:
There is a great new opportunity open in our Charolette, NC steel mill for a Rolling Mill Electronic Technician. This person will report directly to the Electrical Maintenance, Supervisor. Handling the following duties: Plan, lay out, and perform all operations required to install, troubleshoot, repair, construct, modify, calibrate, test, service, and program highly complex closed loop and digital electronic equipment in support of steel production, operation and related plant facilities. Work involves a thorough knowledge of electrical wiring specification, properties of various materials, and principles of operation and application of equipment. Dimensions & Nature and Scope: Work closely with vendor representatives of electronic equipment and field engineers to remain current on latest diagnosis and repair techniques.
Maintain records, parts, and work orders. Have a good understanding of operations of overall plant.
Perform all required safety related procedures related to safety of self or others such as lockout/ tagout, confined space entry, etc. Assist with plant housekeeping efforts and perform other duties and work assignments as required and directed. When operating mobile equipment and/ or overhead cranes, follow all prescribed safety guidelines and perform daily checks to insure equipment is maintained in proper working order. Assist production personnel in daily operation of equipment. Assist in the instruction, development, and monitoring of Trades Helpers and other maintenance employees.
