Requirements:

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor?s degree in journalism,mass communications or related field. Three to five years of experience in news writing or public relations,or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.Communications experience in academia preferred. Must have strong skills in providing excellent customer service and demonstrate strong ethics. A valid driver's license and safe driving history are required.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities: Must have an expert command of the English language and Associated Press style,with superb writing,interviewing and editing skills. Accuracy,reliability and enthusiasm are required.Must be able to meet strict deadlines while handling multiple assignments.Should have comfortable familiarity with Microsoft Office suite,with knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite a plus. Familiarity with DSLR cameras and basic knowledge of photography preferred.

Job Description:

As member of the University Relation steam,the part-time staff writer is responsible for promoting news,achievements and research of Lander University?s students,faculty,staff,alumni and donors. The staff writer is responsible for generating creative and compelling story ideas;conducting interviews with a broad range of subjects;writing and editing press releases as assigned for print and digital distribution;publicizing institutional priorities via press releases and marketing materials;building contacts with in the news media industry;and coordinating content for the web and social media platforms.The staff writer is also responsible for contributing feature stories and other content for the Lander Magazine. As assigned,the staff writer will assist with editing content on web and other strategic messaging to ensure consistency,accuracy and attention to institutional priorities and goals.

Schedule:
Work Hours: Up to 25 hours per week (including some nights and weekends).
