  • High School Diploma or GED certificate required, additional schooling in Veterinary Technology or Veterinary Assistant programs preferred or at least 1 year experience in the veterinary industry or other animal health industries
  • Understanding and familiarity of veterinary medicine, practices and procedures
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to be on your feet for an extended period of time
  • Flexible work schedule includes some weekends
  • Proficient in typing and computer skills required for digital software medical records

Job Description:

Hitchcock Animal Hospital is currently looking for Veterinary Technicians and Veterinary Assistants to fill vacant positions within our hospital that will be opening in June of 2020. We are a locally owned full service, small animal veterinary hospital with focus on the patient and client experience and providing exceptional quality medicine and surgery for our patients.  We are looking for enthusiastic, compassionate individuals with excellent communication and customer service skills to become a part of the Hitchcock Animal Hospital Team!

We have a brand new state-of-the-art, 4000 square feet veterinary hospital that is well planned for the comfort of our patients, clients, and staff and designed to create an excellent work flow.  The hospital is exceptionally well equipped with an all new Abaxis in-house laboratory, digital radiology, surgical suite, and separate designated dental suite, all centered around a large treatment area with ample space to work.  We are excited to invite you to be a part of the launch of this amazing hospital and look forward to developing strong bonds and a long-term working relationship!

As a Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Assistant you will:

  • Receive extensive training on hospital procedures, practice software, and our diagnostic equipment to equip you with the knowledge you need to have success and confidence in your position at Hitchcock Animal Hospital
  • Assist Veterinarians with patients during examination, treatment, and surgical procedures; this will include safe, caring, and effective restraint of patients, obtaining and preparing laboratory samples as requested, administering medications and treatments as directed, communicating between the client and veterinarian pertinent information about the patient, and preparing for patient procedures
  • Maintain proper record keeping (medical records are digital) of history information, patient presentation/reason for visit, treatments received while in-hospital, accurate medication entry, and entering patient charges
  • Begin each patient visit with an initial assessment of the patient’s condition and collecting vital signs and samples
  • Observe and report on the behavior and condition of animals on presentation and while admitted to the hospital
  • Perform digital radiograph images on patients and utilize blood analysis machines
  • Prepare patients for anesthesia and surgical procedures, set up for surgical procedures using proper sterile techniques, assist in the operating room, and recover patients after anesthesia
  • Communicate with clients in person and over the phone relevant information about their pet, as well as summary and discharge information after a patient visit or procedure has been completed to educate the owner on expectations and home care
  • Perform continued use of animal husbandry skills to keep all patients clean, fed, and comfortable during their in-hospital stay
  • Have familiarity of vaccination guidelines and knowledge of preventative product recommendations set forth in the hospital policies

Schedule to allow for strong work/life balance. Day shift with some weekend shifts
