Requirements:

A bachelor's degree with accounting courses and ten (10) years of professional experience in a
related area such as accounting, auditing, banking or finance; or an approved acceptable
equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations.
Computer experience using Microsoft Office.
Experience with principles of accounting (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and
Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB)).
A valid motor vehicle operator's license.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
SAP or SAP like systems experience.

Job Description:

Directs a professional staff of accountants and IT coordinators to direct, oversee, manage and
conduct the fiscal operations of SCDOT. Manages the accounting functions for ultimate
production of SCDOT financial statements and management reporting as required and needed.
Manages staff to ensure assigned tasks and duties are completed accurately and on schedule.
Directs and controls the activities of the employees in the general ledger and fixed asset area of
the accounting office. Provides direct yearend closing process management of accounting
functions to prepare GAAP compliant statements. Actively monitors balance sheet accounts and
ensures reconciliations are prepared on a given schedule. Provides asset accounting including
roads, bridges, and right-of-ways accounting. Assists in upgrading the financial information
system. Sets up and monitors inventory systems and establishes guidelines for annual physical
inventories. Oversees, reviews, develops, and implements accounting procedures to comply
with federal and state laws, general accepted accounting principles, and DOT programs and
management requirements. Performs other related duties as required by management.
