Must be fluent in Spanish and English. Must be a college graduate, an effective writer, and an effective communicator in meetings and training settings. Must be well organized and possess the judgment and ability to make decisions, carry out project duties, and accomplish project goals as a part of a team. Must be an
experienced and zealous organizer and advocate with a demonstrated commitment to improving the conditions confronting low-income families and children. The selected applicant must possess a NC Driver?s License and reliable transportation, as travel through the seven-county service area will be required.

Job Description:

Responsibilities & Duties:
The paralegal will provide administrative and legal support to the Medical-Legal Partnership program and the Durham office of Legal Aid of North Carolina. The paralegal will interview patients referred through the MLP to determine if they are eligible for LANC's services, will hold regular (usually weekly or bi-weekly) office
hours in MLP clinics, and will work directly with MLP clients and other Spanish-speaking applicants and clients who are served by the Durham office. After training, the paralegal may counsel and represent clients in administrative matters under supervision of an attorney, and perform other related responsibilities. The bounds of responsibility will be determined by the selected candidate?s abilities, judgment, and initiative.
