Students must be currently enrolled and pursuing an Associates? degree in Engineering Technology with an emphasis in either Electrical, Electronics, or a Mechanical discipline and be willing to commit to a 3-month summer work schedule. Positions are available in Columbia, Charleston and Aiken. A minimum 2.5 GPA is required.

Job Description:

Responsibilities
Students may perform a variety of duties related to the operation of the electric distribution system, the electric transmission system or substation system. Electric distribution duties may include: assisting in the design of additions and modifications to SCE&G?s electrical system utilizing circuit single line diagrams; designs include certain specifications and calculations including pole height and class, conductor size, transformer size and connections, and anchor and guy wire size; assisting in the preparation of minor work orders, which consists of detail construction drawings plus estimates of material and labor required for completion of work. Electric transmission duties may include: evaluation of License Agreements and Joint-Use Agreements based on field assessments and/or engineering evaluations, material procurement, and inventory reconciliation. Electric substation duties may include: assisting with transformer testing, to include power factor and oil quality testing. May also include cataloging equipment on the Power Delivery System database.

Students may utilize a variety of computer programs to include Geographic Information Systems (GIS), work management system (WMS), Power Delivery System, and Microsoft Office. In addition, students may work with several of our line crews, substation crews, technicians and engineers in the field and perform a variety of functions to include facility installations and outage restoration. Students must be available to work after hours, scheduled overtime and call out work as required.
