MINIMUM AND ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Agency Requirements: Licensed to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in South Carolina; graduation from an accredited school of practical nursing, and at least 2 years of related experience in practical nursing.
Special Requirements: Positions in this classification require licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing.

Provides direct nursing care to juveniles receiving services in a secure facility of the Department of Juvenile Justice in accordance with Health Services and Department protocols/standing orders and policies, the SC Nurse Practice Act, and accepted professional nursing standards. Performs duties as Pharmacy Coordinator and department liaison with the contracted pharmacy services, and resolves issues with contracted pharmacy staff. Serves as the department primary contact for electronic prescribing and electronic medication applications with the department's electronic health record (EHR) system. In conjunction with the EHR Coordinator, conducts initial and sustainment training with nursing staff. Identifies and resolves system issues as required. Safely administers and documents medications and treatments as ordered by a physician, dentist, nurse practitioner, or another nurse (when such medications or treatments are written in accordance with approved standing orders or protocols). Utilizes electron health record to document each encounter with a juvenile. Maintains a safe and sanitary environment and follows basic infection control practices. Assists the physician or nurse practitioner when he/she sees patients; participates in developing plans of care as appropriate. Obtains and records vital signs as required. Collects a variety of specimens for ordered laboratory tests. Must be able to respond capably to emergencies. Must be able to work any and all shifts if the need arises. Must be able to work overtime if the need arises. May be required to work in an area other than regular/normal assigned area. Occasionally supervises the activities of SCDJJ temporary or nursing contact agency licensed practical nurses. Performs other related duties as required.
