Requirements:

A 10th grade education and three and one-half (3.5) years of work experience that involved the independent performance of job duties directly related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations. A valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's License. (NOTE): This position requires a valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's License within six (6) months of placement in the position. However, applicants without a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License will be considered if no qualified applicants with a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License are available.

Job Description:

Diagnoses, repairs, or replaces parts as necessary on all automotive gasoline engines,transmissions, brakes, exhaust systems, cylinder heads, valves, timing belts, and cooling systems. Operates and performs testing with scan tools and monitors testing equipment in order to diagnose problems with various on board computer systems. Diagnoses the repairs or replacements of parts on all diesel powered equipment assigned to County. Performs maintenance and repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, hydraulic motors, pumps, cylinders, mowing equipment tractors and motorgraders. Performs welding and fabrication as needed for repairs on various equipment making modifications to equipment to improve the production of utilizations. Performs electric welding or gas welding. Diagnoses and makes repairs to electrical systems and hydraulic systems to ensure proper operation and safe operation of dump trucks, pickup trucks and equipment. Also assist in auto/truck body repairs when necessary. Reads and interprets the technical parts manual and service bulletins. Cleans and keeps shop equipment and shop area in an orderly manner in accordance with OSHA regulations. Performs regular safety and preventive maintenance inspections and repairs. Services and changes filters on cars, trucks and equipment. Answers service calls in field to tractor mowers, and dump trucks. Ensures that all hazardous waste and materials are properly stored and or disposed of as per DHEC regulations. Ensures all containers are properly labeled.
