JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under general supervision, performs work of considerable difficulty administering and supervising the operation, maintenance, interpretation, protection, and conservation of St. Phillips Island.  Performs duties governed generally by broad instructions, objectives and policies as defined by the agency. Involves choice of action within broad guidelines for a variety of conditions & problems.

1) Assists with park administrative duties in accordance with Department policy and procedures, i.e. reservations, personnel management procurement methods, and requisitions and reports.
2) Assist with planning of long and short term maintenance projects.  Directs and/or performs maintenance on grounds, buildings, and equipment. Provides required reports.
3) Effectively supervises and trains full-time and part-time staff as directed by the Park Manager.
4) Responsible for or assists with the maintaining of park inventory of equipment and supplies.  Provides required reports.
5) Responsible for specific park operations and maintenance of all facilities and public use areas on St. Phillips island as directed by Park Manager.
6) Performs duties relative to assisting the overall management of St. Phillips Island.  Coordinate all aspects of Turner House rentals to include reservations, hospitality and marketing.
7) Ensure staff interprets the natural resources of St. Phillips Island to park visitors.
8) Practice and promote teamwork within the SC State Park Service, throughout the agency and with external agency stakeholders. Represents office as an active member on agency teams assigned throughout the year.

MINIMUM AND ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in Park Administration or related field and one (1) year experience as a Park Ranger or equivalent combination of education & experience. The ability to work independently and direct subordinates as required. Knowledge of park operations to include maintenance and administrative functions. Must possess a valid SC driver's license.

Additional Requirements:

1) Position requires medium to heavy lifting, bending, walking & standing on uneven terrain, crawling, and working at heights. Exposure to weather conditions, cleaning agents, and other materials used in maintaining park facilities and grounds. Works with office equipment such as computers, calculators, etc.  Ability to work a rotating schedule, to include day and night shifts as well as weekends and holidays.
2) The ability to communicate effectively both orally & in writing. Skilled in the operation of various marine watercraft and ability to navigate coastal waters in a variety of weather conditions.
3) Classification may require successful completion of law enforcement training as prescribed by state law. Possess a valid SC drivers license.  Must possess or acquire within 6 months of hire a USCG captain's license.

Full-time, 40 hours per week rotating schedule including weekends and holidays.
