Requirements:

Qualifications:

· High School diploma or GED is required

· Three years of experience in a related field

· Knowledge of housekeeping and basic child care

· Valid driver's license with insurability is required

· Ability to follow directions, efficiently manage household duties, exercise good judgment when interacting with children and families

· Knowledge of physical care of a house, care of clothing, and use of household appliances

· Basic understanding of child growth and development, as well as the impact of separation from the family

· Ability to function as part of the overall child care team

· Good communication and organizational skills

· Neat in appearance and presentation

Job Description:

Primary Purpose:

To oversee the cottage during night hours. The awake staff position is critical to the Shelter Care philosophy of assuring children that they are safe and have immediate access to someone during the night should the need arise.

Essential Functions:

· Monitors the cottage while children and staff are sleeping

· Responsible for checking on sleeping children during the night and reporting usual sleeping habits, sleeplessness, nightmares, sleep walking episodes, and frequent bathroom needs

· Awakes cottage staff for emergency needs and placement calls

· Responsible for making the cottage staff aware of any problems during the night

· Ensures continuation of the established cottage structure

· Ensures cottage operates in compliance with DSS, DHEC, Fire Marshall, and other licensing and/or accrediting organizations

· Performs housekeeping duties to include laundry, kitchen, bathrooms, pantry, and living areas

· Arrives to work on time in order to be updated by the cottage staff on any concerns with the children

· Employs CARE principles and TCI skills while working with children

· Maintains CPR/First Aid certification

· Available to substitute for house parents during week

· Works with campus Support Services Staff to provide for the physical needs of children

· Provides a positive, secure, and nurturing environment for children

· Models positive working relationships with other staff

· Support Connie Maxwell goals

· Works toward achieving yearly “Gold Star” list

· Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor

Work Conditions:

· Involves working a part-time schedule every other weekend. Staying on-campus through evening hours from 10pm-6am and staying awake to assure that children are safe and have immediate access to someone during the night hours.

· Involves walking, sitting, and standing for extended periods of time

· Ability to work indoors

· Ability to lift up to 25 pounds on a regular basis
