Wages/Salary: $11,100/year. AmeriCorps is similar to the PeaceCorps with pay, as it is more about the commitment to the community and learning. There is also eligibility for childcare stipend of $95/week.

Requirements:

Cannot be a full-time student or take this job on as a second job. Men and women over 18 who are US citizens or legal residents and want to make a difference in their communities; HSD or GED; relative work experience or drive. Need to be self-motivated, take the initiative, willing to ask community for help. This would be working for AmeriCorps VISTA, through United Way GAC. AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) is a national service program dedicated to ending poverty by building the capacity of nonprofit organizations and public agencies. Each VISTA member makes a year-long, full-time commitment to serve on a specific project at a nonprofit organization or public agency. With passion, commitment, and hard work, they create or expand programs designed to bring individuals and communities out of poverty.

Job Description:

To expand and enhance economic opportunity services provided to disadvantaged individuals in communities throughout South Carolina.
? Develop infrastructure to track program outcomes, goals and outreach.
? Cultivate relationships between employers, employees and community stakeholders to provide workforce development training and job placements to economically disadvantaged individuals. Including site visits with United Way partners.
? Expand and enhance hunger programs and to help develop a job training program for disadvantaged individuals in communities throughout South Carolina.
? Develop sustainability model for continued and future Economic Opportunity and Financial Literacy endeavors.

Schedule:
This is a one-year commitment to United Way. It is a full-time position, Mon - Fri, 9a - 5p, with a one-hour lunch break each day.
