A high school diploma and relevant program experience. A bachelor's degree may be submitted for the required program experience. Must possess the ability to provide appropriate teaching, supervision and discipline of students within a residential treatment care setting. Must exhibit professionalism when interacting with students, parents/guardians, and a community of stakeholders. Must demonstrate the ability to prevent and manage aggressive behavior in others or demonstrate the capacity to develop and effectively deploy such skills within a reasonable period of time following training. Value working in a multicultural/diverse environment; communicate effectively verbally and in writing with broad variety of people, including other team members and management. Ability to provide visual and auditory supervision of residents; demonstrate group leadership and organizational skills; regularly attend scheduled shifts, be punctual for scheduled shifts and meetings and be in a condition suitable for assuming responsibilities for the position; group management skills and effectively de-escalate potentially chaotic or volatile situations; exercise tact, discretion, and judgment in working with a variety of people; stay calm and emotionally available in an environment serving behaviorally challenged youth; open to constructive feedback and supervision.
PREFERRED: Bachelor?s Degree in social work, human services, psychology, counseling, or related fields, or a combination of at least two years college education and work experience providing human/social/counseling services. Prior experience working with adolescents in a residential or mental health setting or social services highly desired.

Position involves working with residents who are behaviorally challenged and potentially volatile. Potential exposure to communicable diseases including the common cold, flu, tuberculosis, and hepatitis. Position requires availability to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends. Blood Borne Pathogens, First Aid/CPR and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training required within the first six months of employment. Must pass DSS, Central Registry, and SLED Criminal Background checks. Must undergo initial and periodic drug testing. Requires a valid driver?s license. May be required to hold a Commercial Driver?s License (CDL).
Provide a nurturing environment and close, intensive supervision and security for adolescent residents in the residential (cottage) treatment program. Assure resident?s basic needs are met including meals, exercise, hygiene and sleep. Monitor activities and whereabouts of residents. Assure that residents? daily schedule is followed including attendance at medical, dental, counseling or other social service appointments. Administer medication. Complete all residential reports, plans, records, progress reports, and incident reports. Facilitate implementation of Treatment Service Plans and participate in periodic reviews. Utilize behavior management techniques appropriately with residents. Provide feedback that is clear, specific, timely and respectful. Effectively communicate behavior choices to residents, outlining the positive and negative consequences of their choices. Employ relationship and counseling skills effectively. Model healthy interactions and respectful communication with residents. Build caring therapeutic relationships that are warm, nurturing, empathetic and unconditional. Collaborate with residents to problem solve and identify solutions to problematic behaviors using the Think:Kids Collaborative Problem Solving Approach model of care. Teach healthy living skills and conduct recreational and social activities to enhance skill acquisition and fun. Facilitate group counseling/skills training sessions to assist residents in skill development in specific target areas of their Treatment Services Plan. Work effectively within a team of co-workers. Meet regularly with Supervisor and actively participate in professional development.
