Requirements:

Applicants must possess a bachelor's degree in a computer technology related field and two (2) years experience in wide area network (WAN), local area network (LAN), and information technology (IT) security design, installation, configuration, administration, maintenance and optimization, or an associate's degree and four (4) years experience in same. Related experience may be substituted for the bachelor's
or associate degree on a year-for-year basis.
Applicants must possess knowledge of WAN, LAN, telephony, data circuits and infrastructure/cabling design and best practices. Applied knowledge in the configuration, administration, and troubleshooting of routers, switches, firewalls, wireless networking and other network technology. Applied knowledge of WAN/LAN security, intrusion detection best practices. Experience with Microsoft, Linux and other TCP/IP related operating systems. Familiarity with VoIP, RoIP, wireless/streaming video technologies. Must possess strong communication, problem solving and network diagraming skills. Experience with Cisco products preferred. Industry recognized certifications desired.
Applicants must be able to work under limited supervision of the director of the Office of Information Technology, the employee will be called upon to exercise mature judgment in all work scenarios, comply with prevailing policies and guidelines, and to cooperatively and energetically perform assigned duties.

Job Description:

Manages the network infrastructure and operations, analysis, design, configuration, administration, maintenance, optimization, monitoring, documentation, including but not limited to, routers, switches, wireless access points, virtual private networks, network monitoring equipment and software.
Manages the network security structure and operations, analysis, design, configuration, administration, maintenance and optimization, documentation, including but not limited to, firewalls, password requirements, Web Security Suite, RADIUS servers, virus and spam control systems, wireless networks, cabling/infrastructure and directory level security.
Manages interconnections between DPS and other agencies and organizations, and VoIP connections, SCDOT traffic video feeds, and external DNS, and telephony services.
Establishes and maintains contact with vendors and customers for software support and problem resolution.
Provides guidance to Office of Information Technology and other Department of Public Safety Management prepares and presents plans and status reports.
Prepares recommendations for establishment/revision of policies, standards and procedures for management and operation of the Office of Information Technology. Creates and maintains a desk reference for the position.
Attends training programs, conferences, seminars, product and services announcements and product demonstrations, as required to develop and retain a contemporary knowledge of information technology products and services.
Other duties (pertinent to the function, authority, and responsibility of the position) as assigned.
