  • Minimum education and experience:
    • Certification from accredited technical program 
    • An associate degree in a technical field is preferred
    • Minimum of two-years in tool and gage design, and/or in a manufacturing engineering environment, with tool design related experience
  • Ability to:

  • Proficiency with:

Job Description:

BASIC FUNCTION:

Work as part of the Tool Design team by both supporting and being supported by the Tool Design Engineers and Technicians. Together you will design, document, fabricate, and procure new & modified tools and gages as required. In addition, you will be an integral part of the Additive Manufacturing Lab, by designing AM parts, running, and maintaining the 3D printers. You will coordinate project work with Tool Design team leader, but otherwise work with minimal oversight.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Support tool and gauge design activity as directed by the Tool Design team leader. Develop original tool designs, or complete drafting per marked up print, depending on project complexity and direction.
  • Proactively work with engineering and production teams on projects including:
    • New tool design and release
    • Tool changes and redesign
    • Prototype tooling design
    • Tool and gauge related production issues
    • Miscellaneous department tooling needs
  • Process work using the eTSR and eAMR systems.
  • Create tooling part numbers using the eFPS database
  • Using Creo and/or Solid Works you will:
    • Create & modify 3D models of new and existing tooling, gages, fixtures, and assemblies.
    • Create 2D detail drawings, and assembly bill of materials.
  • Setup, run, and maintain 3D printers.
  • Maintain tooling and gauge information in SAP and SmarTeam.
  • Interact with tool and gage vendors by:
    • Requesting quotes.
    • Submitting purchase requisitions
    • Tracking job status to ensure on time delivery
    • Answering questions regarding design
    • Fostering good communication and working relationship
    • Ensuring quality and technical specifications are met
    • Evaluate tool and gauges after receipt and follow up as required
  • Establish tooling crib stock when required.
  • Participate in design reviews of tools, gages, product, and processes.
  • Interact and communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Work within design procedures of ISO and Quality Systems. 
  • Adhere to and promote:
    • Standard manufacturing, engineering, and document control practices.
    • Current quality and control policies. 
    • Current health, safety, and environmental policies. 
  • Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
