Requirements:

A high school diploma and seven and one-half (7.5) years of related trades experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations.
A valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL). (NOTE): This position requires a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License within six (6) months of placement in the position. However,applicants without a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License will be considered if no qualified applicants with Class "A" Commercial Driver's License are available.

Job Description:

Responsible for the maintenance of county roads. Coordinates the work of foremen and crew members. Assists with planning, organizing crew, materials, and equipment. Inspects works in progress and makes follow-up inspections. Inspects work including road condition, patching,ditching, mowing, bridge repair, drainage, signs and vegetation management. Schedules work on a priority basis. Investigates work requests and complaints from general public, public officials, contractors, or SCDOT personnel. Makes recommendations and schedules corrective actions. Enters assessment information into work request module of HMMS. Purchases various materials for road crews with purchasing card and follows all department policies in regard to use of card. Performs field inspections on roads, bridges and right-of-ways, notes deficiencies and schedules corrective action. Assists Resident Maintenance Engineer and Assistant with training. Conducts safety, first aid, and equipment training as needed. Maintains records of such training. Performs related duties as required. Assists Resident Maintenance Engineer and Assistant with enforcement of all current department policies and procedures and regulations including safety, disciplinary action, OSHA, DHEC and hazardous material programs.
