Wages/Salary: Pay Band Band 6 Hiring Range - Min. $55,380.00
A high school diploma and four and one-half (4.5) years of progressively responsible engineering technician related experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Attainment of a Technician Certification in accordance with the SCDOT Technician Certification Policy may substitute for six (6) months of directly related experience. A valid motor vehicle license is required.
The physical demands for the essential functions involves frequent bending, kneeling, stooping and lifting up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May require occasional exposure to noise. May require working outside of normal work schedules and weekends.
Job Responsibilities
Serves as the project manager and inspector on bridge and roadway projects as assigned. Manages and inspects roadway and bridge projects including asphalt, embankment, structural and non-structural concrete structures, bases and sub-bases, driven piles, and drilled shafts. Trains, manages, and mentors other inspectors in areas of material sampling and testing, asphalt, embankment, structural and non-structural concrete structures, bases and sub-bases, driven piles, and drilled shafts. Responsible for the management and inspection of traffic control devices (signs, signals, pavement markings, and work zones) for compliance, deficiencies, and damage according to state and federal guidelines. Responsible for the closeout of contracts through preparation of final construction plans, preparing final material certifications, completion of punch list items, and other related closeout items. Coordinates with contractors and utility companies with identifying potential utility conflicts as well as resolving any issues through relocations, construction modifications, etc. Performs environmental compliance erosion control inspections and documents deficiencies as directed by Departmental policies. Serves as the Department's representative with investigating any complaints or concerns from the general public or property owners and provides solutions to any issues or makes recommendations for corrective action. Prepares all necessary construction reports and correspondence and maintains these records in accordance with Departmental policies. Performs other related duties as assigned.
