To be considered for employment, candidates must possess a high School diploma or G.E.D.; skilled work, which requires certification in welding from a technical school or third party accredited source that provides a validated certification; annually, all welders must complete a weld sample demonstration that will undergo a pull strength assessment, which is evaluated by a third party source.
Job responsibilities may include set-up and perform metal joining and cutting operations, with ferrous and nonferrous metals such as (steel, stainless steel, aluminum, galvanized steel, and cast metals), with or without fixtures, using a variety of welding and brazing equipment; receive and interpret work assignment from supervisor or production control system; input information into data collection system as required using computer; work from manufacturing information, sketches, drawings, oral or written instructions or prototypes; check drawings, sketches and manufacturing information for accuracy; use calipers, tape measures or other measuring devices as required; weld parts using proper machine settings and rod or wire and gas selections; manually locate details on complex assemblies in welding sequence for a variety of non repetitive structural assembly fabrication, with or without fixtures; design and fabricate fixtures to aid in the welding process; measure and align material, insuring dimensions conform to sketches and or drawings; weld, grind, and chip parts as required insuring a clean and quality part; hand lift light loads, use material handling equipment to load, unload, transport, and position heavy loads. May occasionally lift up to 50 lbs; utilize gauges, calipers, micrometers, and plug and pin gauges or other measuring devices to assure engineering standards; perform routine maintenance of tools and machinery according to manufacturing or shop standards; inspect first part piece run for conformity to drawings and specifications; assist lower coded operators or perform tasks of lower coded positions; perform SPC duties daily, including daily charting of all machines and creating designed experiments for problems due to non-conforming materials; observe all safety and hygiene requirements as specified or directed; maintain a clean, orderly and safe work place; all employees are expected to comply with the Environment, Health and Safety Guidelines.
