This certificate program provides students with the basic skills necessary for the collection of laboratory blood specimens. This program focuses on the role of the phlebotomist and emphasizes basic skills necessary for proper and safe collection and handling of blood specimens. The mark of a skilled phlebotomist is the ability to obtain a blood specimen in an efficient and safe manner. The phlebotomist must master venipuncture, capillary puncture; safety and infection control procedures and understand the scope of practice for the phlebotomist, as well as the ability to communicate with patients and various healthcare professionals.
