Requirements:

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE 

  • Minimum educational requirement:  High School Diploma or GED. 

  • Minimum experience level is 3 years in the IF area.  

  • Associates degree, military training, and/or related experience is a plus.   

  • Complete understanding of the operation of IF lines and extruders, Therminol system, CDT and related equipment. This includes knowledge of the physical location and method of operation of all controls in the control room and in the field.  

  • Extensive knowledge of nylon process and the cause/effect relationship of process variables and product results. 

  • Advanced knowledge of SPC and able to manipulate ASPEN Process Explorer, NWA Quality Analyst and other data programs. 

  • Exhibit strong interpersonal skills. 

  • Sound verbal, written, and reading skills. 

  • Knowledge of Provox, Citrix, and MS Office.   

  • Ability to instruct and counsel team members. 

CERTIFIED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED: 

  • Coordinate (through the overhaul team) the shutdown, overhaul and startup of an IF line and be accountable for the safety of the operation as well as the upstream polymerization and downstream IF controllable quality. 

  • Improve process knowledge by attending a class dealing with the more advanced aspects of the IF process and associated variables. 

  • Build capabilities to handle more advanced SPC techniques by attending an advanced SPC class. 

  • Can develop, write and update training and operating process manuals. 

  • Certified in permit writing and requirements. 

  • In-depth understanding of the process.   

BASIC ASSESSMENT:  SC WorkKeys Math, Reading and Locating with a score of 4 or higher.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING ENVIRONMENT 

  • Must work where the noise level requires hearing protection. 

  • May be exposed to various hazards such as corrosive chemicals (acetic acid for autoclave acid boil), steam, molten polymer, equipment related dangers, etc. 

  • Routine safety equipment:  long sleeves, safety shoes, hard hat, ear plugs/muffs, safety glasses 

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. 

  • Ability to push/pull buggies or carts up to 200 lbs. 

  • Ability to carry 25 lbs. or less. 

  • Capable of climbing flights of stairs or ladders. 

  • Working at heights 

  • Capable of walking/standing 8-10 hours per day. 

Job Description:

The Processor is responsible for continuous monitoring of the IF process including the CTD and DSD operations. The Processor must understand the process of the entire operation in IF and be willing and able to make quick decisions in times of upset. This position is the primary person responsible for process stability on the off shifts. The Processor will normally rotate through all IF assignments (first floor, second floor, and troubleshooting).  The Processor will be a member of a shift team led by a shift team leader. A Lean Manufacturing concept is used to minimize downtime and increase productivity with emphasis on producing A-grade product for tire and air bag end uses.   

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES   

  • In the absence of the shift Front-Line Leader, the Processor is responsible for ensuring that all positions are filled and that overtime needs for the area are met; and serves as a primary resource.     

  • Ensure transitions are carried out in a timely manner and all process adjustments are made and verified. 

  • Coordinate the full overhaul of an IF line from shutdown through startup and is accountable for the safety and quality that is IF controllable. 

  • In the case of spills or environmental hazards/releases, coordinate the full investigation and documentation of the event and the making of a final recommendation. 

  • Serve as a consultant and/or an advisor on IF line operation, equipment/process modifications and design of new equipment.  In the case of new equipment being installed, could be assigned the responsibility for following the construction, installation and startup phase of the project. 

  • Monitor process settings using PROVOX instrumentation (Solid State Polymerization and Spinning Machine Areas) and change temperatures and speeds in response to laboratory data, quality standards, process conditions, and input from IF Engineers and Technicians. 

  • Using more advanced SPC techniques, studies and analyzes IF line data for cause and effect relationships, troubleshooting and establishing operating parameters for improved process control. 

  • Enters maintenance reliability notifications and writes permits for maintenance/contract work.   

  • Monitor Provox and responds to alarms.   

  • Monitors Fraytec and reports unresolved issues.   

  • Comply with all safety/health related policies and procedures, participate in company sponsored safety programs and activities, and report to management those conditions or actions by employees or others that might create a hazard to themselves or others in the plant.  Reports any work-related injury or illness, no matter how minor, to their supervisor or lead.  

  • Maintain housekeeping on assigned machines and in areas. 

  • Perform minor maintenance tasks and assist maintenance when they are in the area. 

  • Assist in machine start-ups and shutdowns. 

  • Must be able to work 12 hour rotating shifts.   

  • Must be able to work call-ins, unscheduled hours, and overtime as needed.
