MODELS Academy Receives Critical Support from Grants

While they may not express it outright or even be cognizant of it, young black boys are constantly looking for acceptance, guidance, and discipline. Those without consistent, positive role models in their lives can be at risk of stigma and marginalization later in life. They may miss opportunities for success or, worse, become grim statistics. Steve Coleman, director of MODELS Academy at Piedmont Technical College (PTC), is changing all that — one child at a time. 

PTC Recognizes County Academic Award Winners for Fall 2022

At Piedmont Technical College’s recent fall commencement exercises on Dec. 13, 2022, outstanding students were honored for academic achievement as Countywide Award Winners. 

Greenwood Corvette Club Donates $500 to PTC Foundation

Last month, during the holiday season, officials from the Greenwood Corvette Club presented a check for $500 to the Piedmont Technical College Foundation to be applied toward Automotive Technology Program scholarships.

Attending Piedmont Technical College (PTC) was — quite literally — life-changing for Nicole Herbert. After overcoming a series of life challenges, she came to PTC unsure and vulnerable as an older student in search of a career. She wasn’t sure of anything or even whether she could succeed, but she persevered, graduating with an associate in applied science in administrative office technology/accounting concentration in 2020. The ardent support of her instructors and an unexpected internship opportunity morphed into a career that Herbert never imagined she could have.

Nine Varieties of Poinsettia Available at PTC Horticulture Sale

The Piedmont Technical College (PTC) Horticulture Program’s annual Poinsettia Sale is planned for Dec. 2-3, 2022. This year, there are nine breathtaking varieties of poinsettia to choose from. All plants are grown on campus by the college’s horticulture students and come with a decorative pot cover and festive snowflake transport sleeve. 

More than 60 High Schoolers Broaden Their 'Soil Horizons' at FFA Judging Event

Future farmers got the real dirt on soil quality at the Invitational Future Farmers of America (FFA) Soil Judging Contest hosted by the Piedmont Technical College (PTC) Diversified Agriculture Program at its Saluda County Campus on Sept. 22, 2022. Nineteen FFA teams from 12 different schools across the state competed. The event welcomed 62 high school student participants and 15 high school agriculture instructors. 

Longtime Educator Named Engineering/Industrial Technologies Dean at PTC

Christina Knight, a longtime instructor of Engineering Design Technology and General Engineering Technology at Piedmont Technical College (PTC), has been named Dean of the college’s Engineering and Industrial Technologies Division. The promotion was effective on Nov. 1, 2022.
